Mark Hines has been
involved in the visual arts for more than 36 years. His work has
been an evolution from blown glass to ceramics and now to slumped
glass. Although Mark is basically a self-taught artist, early in his
career he studied Glass Design and Ceramics at USC.
In 1974 Mark created a line of face mugs which
were whimsical and enjoyed great success to the mid 1980’s. From
there he progressed to Raku vases. His oversized vases were sought
after by Marge Carson Fabrics and Henredon Furniture for their
crackle glazes and unique shapes. He also designed a line of Raku
lamp bases for Ethan Allen Furniture.
Mark has returned to his glass roots and now
creates modern slumped glass pieces making use of knowledge he
gained while working with blown glass and ceramics. The range of his
glass works encompasses traditional vessels as well as
nontraditional forms and sculptures.
His newest designs are
large multi-dimensional glass and metal clocks in a variety of
enamel finishes Mark’s designs have been shown in Architectural
Digest and his pieces are in collections worldwide. He has been
commissioned by the City of Tempe Arizona for their annual awards.
