As a Mosaic Artist,
I hand make most of the tile in my mosaic pieces. Table
bases, fine mirrors and frames, door knobs and small boxes keep
showing up for me to repurpose to be more artful.
My inspiration may
come from a group of tile pieces laying in a tray in my studio, a
photograph, changes in the route I drive, nature’s design of pebbles
and sand after the stream has dried, a memory or the texture of a
basket or woven fabric. Textures
are embossed into my handmade tile from hand carved stamps used in
other lands or woven textiles that I have collected from artisans
all over the world.
Mosaic backsplashes
in bathrooms and kitchens are some of my favorite projects. It
is a thrill to work with people who enjoy original design and
handmade tile work. Every
project is unique to the client. Some
clients want personal items included in the mosaic. These
are always incorporated, sometimes inspiring the design other times
creating a “finding Elmo” element.
