Interview With Artist John H Morris Jr. aka Jack Morris
What is your meduim and why did you choose it?
Mixed Media: Layers of paint, chicken wire, canvas, twine, pine cone, lace curtains, sticks, anything I can get my hands on.
It's all about texture.
How long have you been making art?
Since 10th Grade. I decided to begin with painting. Through the years my passion grew as I educated myself with a Bachelor of Science and an MFA in Art Education.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I was often inspired by Van Gogh,
Hans Hofmann, Jackson Pollock and
What does your studio look like?
It's my garage. 2x4's, canvas, saw horses set up like an easel.
Also, a work bench with paints, brushes and trowels.
What is your favorite time of day to make your art?
Morning. I am fresh. It's cooler, and this gives me
more time to focus and loose myself in the piece.
Do you listen to music or have complete silence when you work?
Yes, I listen to 60's-70's, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Zappa
and other artists like these.
Describe your creative process.
I pour 3 complimentary colors, big brush it and work it over. I squint at it, scrape it with a trowel.
I am the catalyst, I let the color speak.
What else would you like people to know about your art?
My art is experiential, emotional and spiritual. I love a hands on experience. I want patrons to enjoy the touch and feel of my art.
