April Bower has always been fascinated by the many varied processes involved in metalworking. While earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, her jewelry work was experimental and creative using silver. After teaching metalsmithing and then apprenticing in fine jewelry, she then began working exclusively in gold, diamonds and faceted stones for 18 years. She now has come full circle, back to what she loves; teaching and the fun, creative, metal work.

She is currently showcasing her original hand fabricated designs in many galleries and museum stores in the southwest. This work, executed in sterling silver, copper & gold, steel, bi- metals and Mokume’ Gane, features primarily metal with textures, sparingly accented with gem stones; diamonds & semi precious stones.

Specializing in earrings, cuff bracelets, & pendants, she creates extremely wearable jewelry, with contemporary styling, April is a patient instructor who stresses good design principals, innovation and experimentation in her teaching, using the "less is more" motto.

Patina is an oxidation that forms on metal, (like rust) due to exposure to the elements & time. Different colors are due to exposure to particular chemicals. The images are created on copper, by attempting to control these chemicals & oxides. Styles range from free form and fold form, to abstract landscapes, leaves and trees.   April , as a Metal Artist and Watercolorist, has discovered a way to meld these two seemingly opposing facets of artistic expression. By painting with reactive chemicals  and metal leafing on copper, wonderful free form and expressive panels can be created. Arranging these in multiples adds yet another dimension

Member of Society of North American Goldsmiths, American Crafts Council,  Arizona Designer Craftsmen, and recently featured in " Changing Hues: Color Embraced by Metalsmiths Around the World" online exhibition on The Ganoksin Project.

Bower teaches workshops at Art Retreat in the Desert, Art Unraveled and private studios in Arizona.
