Janine Carter

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, surrounded by the pageantry of color, sound, and diversity that defines Brazilian culture—all under the blessing of Christ the Redeemer. Today I live among the saguaros and desert rock formations of Arizona, and I feel myself a product of two different, yet equally beautiful, worlds. Both places continue to inspire who I am and the art I create.

Each of my ceramic pieces is meant to be unlike any other. They carry the well-worn marks of their making, often with textured surfaces adorned by found objects once discarded by the world but given new purpose in my hands. I see beauty rediscovered in obscurity. Mistakes have made me stronger, determination has carried me forward, but it is care that shapes my work. Ceramics, to me, are the product of a caring potter’s hand—just as life itself is the creation of The Master Potter. In both, beauty lies in imperfection.

I am inspired by the worlds I’ve lived in, the lessons of resilience, and the hand of the Divine. Nature’s textures, the colors of Brazil, and the rugged beauty of the desert all find their way into my art. Beyond the studio, I draw inspiration from time with The Almighty, from hiking, golf, yoga, and simple walks in nature. Every experience reminds me that beauty exists everywhere—even in the imperfect.
