RICK FITCH

I am an Arizona native with a lifelong passion for ceramics. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Arizona State University and continued graduate coursework toward a Master of Fine Arts while also studying under nationally recognized potters in workshops. After graduation, I taught ceramics and jewelry at the high school level for several years before fully committing to my career as a studio potter. Today, I continue to live in Arizona with my family, dedicating my life to clay and its endless possibilities.

My pottery reflects the style, beauty, and colors of the Southwest. I create both wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces, ranging from functional dinnerware and serving sets to commissioned decorative works. Each piece is carefully shaped, designed, and decorated with close attention to form and function, ensuring that the finished work is not only useful but also aesthetically pleasing. My goal is to produce ceramic artwork that brings joy in both its everyday use and its visual presence.

I am inspired by the landscapes and traditions of the Southwest, which influence the colors and designs in my work. I am also motivated by the balance between function and beauty—how clay can be both practical and expressive. Traveling throughout the region for juried art exhibitions, and seeing how people connect with my pottery, continues to inspire me to push my craft forward. Each new piece is an opportunity to celebrate clay as both an art form and a part of daily life.
